No love for other smartphones?
Okay, I wasn't too keen on getting a smartphone initially, having preferred simple flip-style phones for making and receiving calls.
However, a brother managed to upgrade to an iPhone, so he pretty much gave me his, an HTC Mogul. Neat little thing. I finally got a plan for it some months ago, and have loved it. I haven't tried tethering or anything fancy with it, using it for little more than texting and phone.
I bring it up because it seems that Windows Mobile 7 is out soon. 6.5 is also out, so I might see about flashing hte ROM and updating it, but I'm looking into the whole procedure on how to do it right, as it seems that you can end up bricking your phone if you screw up the ROM update.
Much like being able to brick a router if you end up messing up flashing the new firmware, cough cough.

No, I mean router. Although I'm sure you can brick a printer too.

Okay, flashing WM 6.2 seemed to have worked fine. I was hoping to have 6.5, but it would seem that the Mogul is a bit too old to run it. Bummers. Now I got to reload all my contacts...! Maybe if I'm lucky, it'll work a bit faster now with better firmware.
Oh huh, it restarted itself. Ah, after it reloaded the recovery junk. Fun, smartphones are.
You iPhone geeks worry about updating firmware ever?

Of course. There are always firmware updates. However, nothing recently has been worth updating to. 3.1.3 iPhone Firmware is about worthless and if used for anything maybe only to negate a decent Jail Break. It makes it harder to.

Jail break - you mean a stolen phone that has been activated without paying for it...? I'm not getting it.

Re: No love for other smartphones?
LOL. Jailbreak as in uber pwnage...nuff said.
Just kidding it's taking the firmware, customizing it to go over Apple's head, then loading it into your phone. Or, you can Jailbreak it using something called Blackra1n and you don't have to reinstall you just Jailbreak as is.
It allows you to install stuff Apple didn't approve. Certian Apps, Themes and Functions that make the fun way more cool. It's that Apple has a lot of restrictions and this is what get's around it.

Oh okay. Almost like Roman loading custom firmeare into the router, to unlock bits of hardware normally left untouched by the default firmware.
Good hardware + good software = rockin'.
Hmmm, I wonder if the Mogul has some custom stuff for it. Nah, I better not. I'd hate to brick my phone.

MUAHAHAHA

Some tech-savvy geeks have gotten WM6.5 to run on the Mogul, otherwise known as the Titan as far as HTC is concerned. The Mogul was just Sprint's brand name that tacked onto it. IDK if anyone has actually tweaked the hardware, but they got a custom ROM builder program so you can build your own custom ROM if you wanted to. Doing that, they crammed 6.5 into the thing. WM6.5 looks way better than 6.1 or 6.2 does by far, much more intuitive menus and the interface doesn't look so much like ancient Windows 3.1 from way back in the day.
Of course, I could just cave and buy a more modern smartphone...
