Tim's Nvidia Thread
As promised, the thread to talk about the Nvidia thread. I guess we were raining on the ATI thread a bunch, but just check my sig that Tim gave me.
Is it hijacking if I start the thread?
I'm thinking about seeing if the GeForce 260M is any good, as it seems that the 300M series isn't all that just yet.

Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread
Mine's better, neener neener. Anyway...
I had done some reading, but yes, I'm leaning towards the 260M card. I'm not sure how upgrading laptops works though, like, how does one ensure they don't stuff too much for the power supply to reliably handle? Is that even an issue with their limited internal volume?
It's all connected, and one has to think about it in terms of how will all these parts work together?

Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread
im not sure if we can even upgrade our card. we would have to ask Best buy or ASUS themselves. Anyone want to make that call to both?
Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread

Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread
Roman, I'll have to peruse some forums, maybe our card is tacked onto the MB instead of being integrated. But I have a hard time believing that Nvidia integrated a card directly onto the main board. I'll post up what I find or something.

Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread
Okay, I didn't find anything totally solid, but it would seem that the word on the street is that our G50V laptops have some wierd interface slot for the graphics card - it's all mirrored or something odd, so if you want to replace the graphics card for a new one, you have to go through ASUS. Which means, basically, it'll cost more, and that's even if they would sell them to you.
But I'm still looking. I might crack mine open and take a look inside, unless Roman's already voided his warranty...? We got the same thing...

Re: Tim's Nvidia Thread
Nvidia GTX 480 is almost here. Snip below:
"In Falcon Northwest's benchmarks for the game Crysis, one GTX 480 displayed high-definition images at 30 frames per second on a 24-inch monitor, and two GTX 480s displayed at 58 frames per second. By contrast, a single ATI Radeon HD 5870 in the same tests yielded 31 frames per second, and two 5870s scored 44 frames per second."
"The GTX 480 is priced at US$499, while the GTX 470 is priced at $349. The cards will become available in April."
Awesome. That'll be the card I'd want for whenever I make a desktop rig.
