Minecraft Server Upgraded

Ok, for all of you minecrafters out there. Finaly updated the server to 1.2.3 version. Did not lose any maps as i was afraid would happen. Anyways the game had some major improvements with the latest patches. The lan party server is up and running. Let me know how you like it? I wonder if anyone would like to play minecraft at the next lan party? Which by the way is next month, since im in the process of getting a new home. Maybe even 2 months. I will let you all know.

Did you see any Jungles yet? If you don't have them, REGENERATE THE MAP. You'll thank me for it later, Jungles are THAT AWESOME. They're the only biome that generates Ocelots, which you can tame into domesticated cats, which scare off Creepers. Stick one by your doorways, you'll never be Creeper'd ever again.

Plus, the trees are super-cool for wood - well over a whole stack of wood in a single tree.

You're hosting the map locally, right? I might end up going to a hosting service to host my server - my little G50v and Road Runner isn't ideal for that sort of thing.

But yeah, I'm down for some Minecraft.

If you've been on recently, you might have noticed that I did up a two-story wood and stone house, planted a small wheat field, and did up a cobble path from the dirt starter house to my place. Finally, I penned up some cows, so I can breed them for leather and beef (beef is superior to porkchops - breed cows, kill the extra ones, repeat as needed). If you get an empty bucket, you can even milk them, too - you need three buckets of milk to make a cake (along with three wheat, two sugar and one egg). I also started planting sugar cane, and made some book shelves in my house for decoration.

Need sheep, though. I might go gather some into a pen so we can harvest wool with shears. Sheep regrow their wool now, so provided that you don't KILL THEM, you have all the wool you could ever want.

I plan to locate an abandoned mineshaft so I can get some Melon seeds. They grow a lot faster than wheat, and you get more meals out of them, seed for seed. Much more efficient. Plus, you only need something like six melon plants to survive off of - you need a lot more ground for wheat if you don't want to starve... Although I do want to make the wheat farm better. What I have there now is field-expedient. I can do lots better, but was pressed for time.

Oh, and diamonds. I plan on digging down to bedrock and getting a branch mine going, so I can grab lots of cool ores.

Then I can show you all the wonders of Redstone (although Angela is a LOT better at Redstone circuit design than I am).

She plans to jump on, after she finishes a big project on our other server. The starting area is nice and flat, so we all should have plenty of room to play with.

Forgot: Can you remove spawn-area protection? There's some nasty creeper holes in the protected area that no one (as you have NO OPS) can fix.

Actually, I think he fixed it up, as he is the only OP we have.

So no need to remove the spawn-protection, I guess. Eventually, spawn will migrate, and we can mess around with it as normal. Which will be nice, as my branch mine ran smack into it - I should've wandered off a ways to do my mine, but I wanted it close to my house.

Anyways, i wondering if you guys can recruit more people to play the game? I increased the server to 30 players.

LOL. Gonna be hard to get that many people to play. Logan has the game, a shame he doesn't play it. I think Dustin would play it, though.

The more, the merrier. Plus, noobs are fun to have around.

I completed a pathway from the Village to Devin's spot, through the Nether. So, less walking and all that.

Why less walking? Every meter in the Nether euquals eight meters in the Overworld. So, if you make a portal at 0,0 and another one at 800,0, the corresponding portals in the Nether will be at 0,0 and 100,0. So, only a hundred meters to walk. It certainly helps tie remote locations together.

I got permission from Roman to construct the walkway in Creative Mode; I consider such things to be communal civic services. This will only serve to link remote areas together, though. If you want to traipse through the Nether looking for Fortresses and Glowstone, that's up to YOU. All I did was link up two portals with a walkway.

That's how I view it on my own server - communal stuff can be done with Creative, but don't go bugging OP's for help when you lose your stuff due to stupidity.

Now, if someone wants to make more Nether portals on their own the hard way, I suggest doing it with someone else, so they can guard you from Ghasts and stuff. Ghasts will wreck your day in a heartbeat.

List of compromised Minecraft accounts. This is why I don't use mods. It isn't clear if this was due to malicious client-side mods, or server-side. CTRL+F, just to be sure.

I did some groundskeeping at Devin's place. Should be safer to get to the mine, although I still want to fully enclose the mine head so that you don't get Creeper'd on the way to the mine after getting shoved into lava by someone.

Still PLENTY of ground on his island to hunt critters and things, and enough land that we could actually build more stuff. Devin is only using the very southwest corner of it.

Devin is a crazy boy. Watch your "six". You may just take an arrow to the knee.

Okay, not sure how Roman wants to address it, as it is HIS server and all that, but here's the thing:

1- The portal in my basement is open to whoever needs to use it, as it is currently the only portal in the village to The Nether.

2 - The ovens, enchantment table and workbenches are open to whoever needs to use them.

3 - Do not pilfer from my chests.

4 - DO NOT DIG IN MY MINE.

No, I'm not. Here's why - a naturally-occuring cavern or abandoned mine, ravine, stuff like that, that's all public stuff. At least, on every other server I've been on, including my own. If it's not in someone's property, it's fair game, typically. I've been playing the game with other folks for about a year now, so there's a few typical rules to follow - don't be a jerk, don't steal from others, and be nice.

Now, if someone decides to make a mine out of solid rock, carving it out on their own, that's different. My mine is built right under my basement - a tunnel directly under it, so to gain access to my mine, you either have to tunnel into it by accident (it happens, no biggie), or enter it from my house. Yeah, it's just pixels, but I spent time digging out that mine, forming the side branches, lighting it up, and organizing it, only for someone to step into it and pretty much steal from me.

My house, my mine, although the Nether Portal is open to whoever wants to use it.

If someone is willing to share their mine with others, that's their decision to make, and applies to their mine only - Player A may be open and free with whoever wants to dig in their stuff, that is Player A's decision, and does not give Player B permission to dig freely in Player C's mine.

I will eventually declare that mine and building to be public striuctures after I make another house elsewhere, but until I do, it's still my house, my stuff and my branch mine.

I suggest making a sign somewere everyone will notice to not dig in your mine. As for stealing stuff from others, i will let people know in game that is not allowed. As for your stuff, I'll just make you an OP for time so you can replace whatever was taken.

Oh, what I said was pre-emptive in nature - just that with a glut of n00bz on the server, some things will need to be clarified. As far as I know, nothing has been taken, but certain players seem to like making jokes about raiding my house for diamonds.

We might need a newcomer's spot right by spawn that helps explain the rules of the server - and yeah, we might be better serviced by having another OP, so I accept your offer. You're not on all the time, and occasionally, there is a need to TP someone out of a glitch or something. I've grown used to having PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS! without letting it affect Survival gameplay, as evidenced by my rather primitive housing situation on my own server - I live in an itty bitty space, a cramped wooden sailing ship.

Ok, just talked with another minecraft guru regarding lag and other issues. He recommended to increase the RAM of the server to 2 gigabytes for stability. He mentioned that anything below 1.5 gigs of RAM will experince lag and connection drops. So, today i will be inreasing the ram on the server. I will let everyone know in the game when im about to do it instead of just kicking everyone off.

As being on OP on the server i have some rule for you to follow.

1. no giving items to other players for any reason unless approved by me.
2. no community projects as OP allowed without my approval (don't want the server to turn into a creative one if you know what i mean. I want to keep it stricktly a servival server as much as possible. It will get very boring if i dont. had many player leave my server for that reason in the past.
3. TP should be only used if a person is glitched.
4. If in doubt, ask me.

As a note a low amount of players would still lag out the server with not enough RAM.

I'm fine with those rules.

So, looking to upgrade RAM on my Asus - 800MHz 4GB DDR2 sticks will work, yes? Might get a pair of them and double my RAM.

no, your motherboard is limited to 4 gigs already. you are maxed out.

Nah I understand would make me mad. That's why I don't like how everyone can go into your stuff without permission. We should lock that down or something. Can you lock down only certian chests? I would put diamonds in those...
