Windows Surface

Anyone plan on getting one? They look very interesting. If the price came down, they became cheaper, then I wouldn't mind having one. We will see I guess. If there are full fledged software bundles such as Microsoft Office on a mobile device, then it would be pretty sweet.

560 bucks new? Probably the only way to use Windows 8 and not rip your hair out, I've heard. Comparable in price to current iPads and Minis (3rd gen ones are around 600 bucks), but with a Windows OS (so you can probably 'tinker' with the filesystem a hell of a lot better). So there's that as a plus. The minus, is it's one of what - one? - Tablets running a Windows OS, unless you dig up an old Microsoft Tablet PC from 2002, but good luck finding one.

I'm also thinking how they messed up by making a one-size-fits-all OS. Apple made a mobile iOS and a OSX for desktops / laptops. Obviously easier to get around with a tablet in Windows 8.

That's what I've been hearing, too. Win-8 is basically designed for touchscreens, what with all the icons, app panels and other crap. Great if all you have is a finger to use the machine with, but if you have keyboard and mouse... well, we've managed just fine with MS-DOS all the way through Windows 7. Why change it?
