Re: So, you got an old laptop
And now I'll have four laptops just for me. The G50 will become a spare for LAN party use, since The Missus does not have a laptop of her own any longer.
I'd like to toss in Ubuntu onto her old laptop (it's MINE now) and I still would like to retain the Dell 4100 for the Hipster factor.
...that gives me six working (for a loose definition of "working") computers at my house.

Or did I have three?
The numbers don't matter
Just that they're free
They're dated and faded
And finding parts is a chore
But they fire right up
And the 'Net ain't a bore.
But when I desire to frag things
I'm not without toys
I have a DTR game rig
To score FPS joys
Awesome poem. I shed a tear.

Dude Roman. I saw this preview, it was creepy I forgot how I saw it for a movie called Mama. I kept laughing when most would be scared, because they kept saying Mama. haha.

New laptop showed up. Will take pics of the unboxing with the oldest helping me, should be fun (and will keep the kids out of Mommy's hair, since she's sick and needs some rest).
Will regift the older one to the oldest, so she has something that can run Minecraft decently, after I set it up for her to log in on a limited account.

Took some crummy pics of the unboxing (no flash, BOOO) and fired it up. Ran a zillion updates, took out some bloatware.
It's a pretty nice machine, jut have to figure out how the keyboard backlighting is supposed to work (the external keyboard might be interfereing with it or something).

My pics sucked, since my craptastic Android has no flash.
I'll definitely bring it to our next meeting/LAN event/whatever.
Figured out the backlighting, by the way. Had to reload a driver.

Ok Ian. I can't convince you on getting a Mac, but you definitely need an iPhone. Seriously, it's so simple and get awesome pictures.

I just realized that we have a 500-dollar Digital SLR camera, that takes OMGAWESOME pictures, even if you decide not to use the flash.

Re: So, you got an old laptop
In my latest news, I managed to score a 4GB thumbdrive for like, six bucks. Also bought an 8GB SD card since it was cheap, too. Class 8, so it should be fast enough to use as a cache drive. (like I needed more speed out of the G55...)
I used Live Linux to install a bootable Ubuntu 12.10 image onto the thumbstick and fired up my wife's old Dell Inspiron 1735 (Core Duo, 4gb of RAM, but the physical condition of the unit is pretty poor).
Yay, fired up. Installed Ubuntu. It even found the wireless interface card that had "died" when it was running Windows, which is cool, so I got to install updates and all that fun stuff.
Now, the bad news: I have no sound. This apparently is a common problem with Ubuntu and laptops. So now I get to dive into the Terminal head first and input commands in an attempt to see if it's a driver problem or something else. Other than that, the thing runs okay.
...just wondering what to do with it, at this point. I can surf web (firefox is WEIRD), do e-mail, word-process, and look like a bum with the busted hinge all flopping around and stuff.
Maybe I'll get lucky and Artemis runs on Linux...? Would be nice.
