HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon's EVO)

Info Link
http://www.htc.com/us/products/thunderbolt-verizon

Comparison Link
http://www.wirefly.com/learn/resources/cell-phone-comparison/htc-thunderbolt-vs-htc-evo-4g/

Differences

HTC EVO 4G
1GB onboard; 8GB microSD pre-installed
1,500 mAh, lithium-ion
RAM: 512MB
4G WiMax
6 oz

HTC Thunderbolt
8GB onboard; 32 GB microSD pre-installed
1,400 mAh, lithium-ion
RAM: 768MB
4G LTE
5.5 oz

Not sure why the Thunderbolt battery is less. I hear the EVO 4G battery is horrible on 4G. No fix in sight, maybe a new phone is the fix. As in EVO 4G 2. Not too sure about the Thunderbolt. Maybe it's 100mAh less because it doesn't drain as much energy? Or maybe it's worse! We don't know yet. One thing I'm hearing is LTE is faster than Wimax. I still didn't see proof of this, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Shocked

Wow, awesome deal. Two batteries and a charger for $50. I just ordered it. My battery life sucks. Stock battery is 1300mAh. These two are both 1500mAh.

HTC Thunderbolt Charger and Batteries

I wonder if both evo and thunderbolt batteries are compatible?

1750mAp EVO 3d battery in a thunderbolt sounds like a good option to me!!!

What you think? Have you seen any threads regarding this possibility?

Update on rooting the phone. I'm about to do it now! Downloading the executable. Instructions are pretty simple. I hope I don't jack this up!

Update

Post by Ambush on Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:27 am

Rooting was successful! Took a while of repeating certain steps. Had to redo my phone. Wasn't too hard. I can now use Titanium backup app now. All my media was on the SD card so it's all good. There wad an updated Rooter.exe app I needed that was attached the the original post on the XDA thread. Also, some 64 bit version files. I'll update if I have new findings. Phone is very fast all of the sudden, too!

Re: HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon's EVO)

Ok so I went with:

BAMF 4.4.2 kernel
AOSP-Flavored Nonsense v2

These worked extremely well for me. The boot time after the phone is restarted is 10 seconds as opposed to the stock ROM which is like 45 seconds. This interface on this ROM is sweet. Only problem is MMS doesn't work.

I ended up getting into an infinite loop when flash to The Perfect Storm v1.3 ROM. Then, when I tried recovery it would by pass the options that I could ordinarily select from and do some boot process forcing me to choose to update my phone or not. It's not the update one would want. I did this and lost my root.

Anyway, I got my root back and did a restore. Tried it again and same loop happened. Turned off the phone and pulled out the SD card. After that, I deleted / moved the root zip file that was originally created. I think it kept trying to access this. Then I was able to choose to load from a new zip. I did it kind of weird. I did a restore for just the "Boot". Then, when I started the phone it kept all my stuff, but sent me into the Perfect Storm ROM. Interesting it did not change back to the AOSP ROM. This has no MMS issues, but at first I did have Wifi issues. It was disabled, but now it works.
