ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
Dude I was doing some reviews on the ATI 5770 VGA's and that junk is sick. I mean DX 11, DDR5 , 1GB, and runs cool for under $200. You jsut can't beat that.
All I got to say is ATI Revival!

PCI-E?
All I got is PCI, I got one of their older PCI 256MB 9250 models. Good all-around card as of two years ago.
I'm considering making a modern desktop rig. I got a 2.8~ GHz processor, 1.75 gigs of RAM (weak), but it's on a factory motherboard, and I have no clue what my power supply can handle. I'm tricking out XP to run as bare minimum as I can, (400MB RAM usage at idle).
MITHINKZ I NEEDS MOAR POWAH - SLOW COMPUTAH IZ SLOW.

Re: ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
Unfotenatly all computers in the past 5 years require PCI-E Video Cards. As for a modern rig, you will need a motherboard that can at least support 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, Dule core processor (quad is better if you can afford it), 5870 card for $400 or the 5970 for $700 (Will not need to change your card for like 10 years and its 2 5970 in one for a $100 less). Also you can always crossfire those puppies later for a much cheaper price. The rest of the stuff if basic and cheap like Hard Drive, DVD-Burner, Power Supply and a Case with Fans. It should come out to around $1800 with nice 26 inch death monitor, and thats with the $700 ATI death card with 2gigs of DDR5 Video RAM. :)
Re: ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
Yeah, I had the feeling about two years ago that PCI-E was going to be all that and a bag of chips. And I had sprung some good money for a 128MB AGP card that still works, although it it four years old now. They even make AGP cards worth anything nowadays? PCI cards are only good for general use, so if I did spring for a motherboard, I'd have to get something failry modern - but I'm not looking to make an uber-awesome machine.
Eh, got other things to pay for and buy, like a car that doesn't dribble coolant when I park it.

Nvidia will, or they're going to lose out on their market share, wich is something like 37 percent of the market. They have the GeForce 300 series in development, and it will support Direct3D 11 - otherwise known as DirectX 11. Expect it to hit the street March-April timeframe, and knowing them, it will be a good card to buy.

Re: ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
Well, we will have to wait and see what they'll be charging for the cards once they hit the shelves. Seems like Nvidia stuff is worth the price, but ATI stuff seems to be worth it, too. Either way, it would be hard to go wrong. Might be a simple matter of choosing what brand has better customer support where you're at, and how much coin you have on hand when you decide to buy.

Dude what are you talking about? Nvidia has all the latest technology. It may not have a card superior to this one, but it eventually will. The technology is far more advanced in Nvidia chipsets than ATI.

Re: ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
I've pretty much only bought ATI cards when upgrading, trying to rid myself of factory installed integrated graphics that most off-the-shelf desktops come with. The laptop came with Nvidia already installed, and it works great. My wife's newer laptop comes with integrated something-or-other, but it seems to work pretty well. The new Dell the Church has is essentially a newer version of what I got my wife.

Re: ATI Radeon 5700 series $200 What's up with that?
I'll have to wait and see how their notebook version of the 300 looks. Might be worth it to upgrade my laptop to a gig of video ram, as my GeForce 9800M GS card is a piece of trash.
That or I've been bitten by the Can't Keep It Stock bug. Happens to all my cars, too.
Hmmm, tax returns...
GeForce GTS 360M, anyone?
