What College Do You Attend and For What Degree?

I just enrolled in Phoenix University. I'm going for my BSIT / ISS. That stands for The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology/Information System Security.

Wow, big words. Anyway, I've not even had my first class yet for my Associates, lol. My first day is February 22nd. They're transferring my transcripts from the military and adding in my certifications to lessen the courses I need to take. Each class is 5 weeks long and only on Mondays from 6pm-10pm. Man, why did I pick infantry? I will have to have more classes because the work that I've done in the Army doesn't count ofr much compared to a more technical job. Praise God, though. A step in the right direction.

Well ill be joining you in the edumacation thing on the same BSIT/ISS. It should be intresting. Hey at least UP is going to accept your Technical certs as credits. like 8 of them, which is like 3 or 4 classes you dont have to take. Also remember to fax your transcript to Mitch so they can give you even more credits from your military transcript.

It doesn't make sense to have a major that has a focus in IT. The government isn't going to give you more money for it once you're in. Whatever your position is, that is what is is.

Having a bachleor's is all people care about. They don't care what it's in, necessarily. In the I.T. Field what is held in higher regard is EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATIONS. The degree matters, but it doesn't necessarily matter what it's in. Let's say you want to be a BOSS. Having a degree in business management stuff would be more like it.

Also, if you ever needed to you would have a bachleor's in something else other than IT. Honestly, I don't plan on doing anything else. However, it still gives you options. I really don't see a "disadvantage" in this.

I'm not going to change it..but if later another "interest" that is associated with IT like management or project stuff comes up, I'll chose that. I'm still going to work on certs and by the way I need to buy those routers ASAP! Maybe today after church. What say ye?

I guess they view the ability to slog through boring college classes as a sign of maturity, and thus, that you're a stable worker.

Pretty soon, and you'll need a degree to say "Would you like fries with that?"

Maybe I will get that one!? "Would you like fries with that...?" Nah, but seriously you close the door to other oppertunities when you major in something that you don't REALLY need the major in. It all goes back to just having a Bachleors. I'm not saying it's bad, but when you think about it if they don't pay attention all that much to your major than you just threw out an oppertunity for an alternative if for some reason you can't work that field. I know IT is not going anywhere soon. Just saying.

I know it seems like "what the heck" is he yacking about. I guess I'll just ask Sep about it. He's a smart guy. I will see him tonight hopefully as I'm working days.

I currently attend Hawaii Pacific University and am going for my BA Business Admin - Computer Info Systems.

It's been 3 years since I've been to college and I'm glad I'm back!!!
